Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has been granted Indian citizenship, the actor announced on his social media page. While sending Independence Day wishes, he captioned the post saying: “Citizenship Dil aur, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day.”
Kumar has always been criticized for his Canadian citizenship. Earlier this year, in an interview with AajTak, the actor said India is everything to him and he applied to change his passport.
In the 1990s, he went through a difficult period in his career when he made more than 15 consecutive failures and that prompted him to apply for Canadian citizenship. His citizenship has come under close scrutiny after he failed to vote in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
The issue also became the subject of debate after he conducted a “non-political” interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the election.
Meanwhile, in terms of work, the actor was finally able to see a hit movie after many failed films. His recent release OMG 2 is shining at the box office. The movie earned a total of $55.17 crore in India. The collections for Monday are $12.06 crore higher than the release date $10.26 cores.
As reported by Sacnilk, the film is estimated to earn $20.00 crore in India only on Thursday.
In the film, Akshay Kumar plays the messenger of Bholenath and is seen standing with dreadlocks to boot, Pankaj Tripathi plays a follower of Lord Shiva named Kanti Sharan Mudgal, Yami Gautam also plays a key role in the film.
Directed by Amit Rai, performed by Viacom18 Studios, “OMG 2” is produced by Cape of Good Films and Wakaoo. It addresses various issues of adolescents and the importance of sex education. Before that, the film has attracted attention since the producer released the poster and teaser of the film.
Some reports suggested that the film was paused by the censorship board because the committee wanted to be more cautious due to the film’s religious themes. But then, the film was approved by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and granted an ‘A’ (Adult Only) certificate.
