Here’s everything you need to know about the latest ATP Rankings published on August 21, 2023.
Novak Djokovic finished at number 1 in the world. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the latest ATP Rankings published on Monday.
world number 2 Djokovic saved a match point before beating Alcaraz 5-7, 7-6(7), 7-6(4) to win his third Cincinnati Open title and 39th Masters 1000 title overall, shortening the gap between the two players to only 20 points. Since the 20-year-old Spaniard will be the defending champion of the US Open starting on August 28, he will not be able to win any points.
On the other hand. Djokovic, who missed last year’s Major in New York due to the US ban on unvaccinated international travelers from COVID-19, needed only to win his first match to reclaim his number one spot.
Elsewhere in the top 10, Denmark’s Holger Rune has moved up a notch to a new career high of four even though he’s retired in the second round in Cincinnati since last year’s runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas lost in the 16th round. The Greek player slipped three places to seventh.
