The football world has been flooded with reports focusing on the future of Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood, with speculation suggesting a possible move to Saudi Pro League club, Al-Ettifaq.
However, coach Al-Ettifaq and former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard have denied these rumours.
Greenwood’s run at Old Trafford came to an abrupt end on August 21 when Manchester United officially confirmed his departure. The resolution is the result of a six-month internal investigation following Greenwood’s ruling on allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Although Greenwood was initially charged in February 2023 with willful rape, assault as well as acts of coercion and control, these charges were later dropped. Following the announcement of his departure, rumors began swirling around Greenwood joining Al-Ettifaq, with Gerrard at the helm.
However, in a move to confirm the refutation of such rumors, Gerrard took to Instagram on August 23, labeling the news as ‘fake’, thereby making his point clear.
Additional reports since then have suggested that Greenwood’s move to the Saudi Pro League this summer would come as quite a surprise. It is known that the English striker is very interested in staying at home and has expressed special interest in two Championship clubs. However, these clubs chose not to sign the striker.
While Manchester United have acknowledged their commitment to helping Greenwood get a new team, there has been speculation of interest from clubs in Turkey and Italy. However, with the current situation, Greenwood’s future in football is still undecided and there is much speculation.
