K-pop group FIFTY FIFTY has filed a criminal complaint against the CEO, Jeon Hong Joon of their management agency ATTRAKT for alleged treason. The group was originally signed to Jeon Hong Joon’s previous agency, Star Crew Entertainment, and then transferred to ATTRAKT prior to their debut. The group made allegations of financial discrepancies, showing improper transfers of funds and debts between the two companies. In the meantime, FIFTY FIFTY members opened up about their decision to fans. They shared handwritten letters and addressed concerns, misunderstandings and allegations related to the incident. The members said they were shocked by the situation and called it a ‘difficult time’. They wrote, “We first wanted to take this opportunity to correct the wrongs that were forced in our relationship with the company. And to protect our music, we have no choice. So, after much consideration, our members have decided to face this path.”
“It is heartbreaking to see so many false stories being reported in the media and social media these days. However, we have been careful about commenting on the termination of our exclusive contract with our company. This does not mean that we acknowledge or accept what has been reported in the media. We believe that taking this matter to court based on facts is the right way to resolve the situation. We had hoped that the truth would be revealed during the trial and that our rights would be protected.”
They continued: “We will continue to collect and submit fact-based documents and evidence. In doing so, we hope to clear up any doubts and misunderstandings. We sincerely hope that you do not make too much criticism based on false doubts and misunderstandings and please look at the facts objectively. Right now, each of our members is in it together, leaning on each other to stay strong. However, what we really want is to carry out our activities as real artists in a reliable environment.”
Fifty Fifty and Fifty Controversial
FIFTY FIFTY filed a lawsuit in June asking for the suspension of their exclusive contract with their agency. After that, the court tried to mediate between the two parties, however, FIFTY FIFTY members said they did not intend to settle the matter through mediation. The next day, the group filed a lawsuit against the company. Now their previous case will return to trial.
On the other hand, ATTRAKT and its CEO have claimed that there are ‘external entities’ playing and accused Warner Music Korea and The Givers CEO Ahn Sung Il (who was previously in charge of music production). of FIFTY FIFTY) took the group away. from their agency. However, another case was filed involving Ahn and three other individuals for fraud, breach of duty and obstruction of business. Warner Music Korea has denied all the allegations so far.
