The Delhi government will close all schools, offices and the NDMC market area from September 8 to 10 due to the G-20 Summit. The Delhi Police have asked the Delhi Chief to declare this three-day holiday for the G-20 Summit in New Delhi and order the closure of commercial and business establishments in the ‘controlled area’.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approved the proposal and it will now be sent to Delhi LG.
India Today reported that September 7 is a public holiday while September 9 is the second Saturday, so only on September 10, Friday schools are closed.
All schools and government offices including the MCD office will be closed on these days.
The decision was made to keep the VIP movements and route arrangements intact. The main concern is that the average citizen should not face any undue problems in commuting due to these restrictions.
All private offices and institutions will also be closed during this time. Banks and financial institutions in the New Delhi district of the Delhi Police will remain closed. Shops and commercial establishments in the New Delhi district of the Delhi Police will also close, this has been marked by the authorities.
Special Commissioner of Police Madhup Tiwari of the Delhi Police last week wrote to the chief secretary, asking the government to declare a public holiday from 8 to 10 September and issue instructions to close commercial establishments. mainly in New Delhi area in view of G20 Summit.
For the G20 Summit, US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping and other heads of state will visit India. White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Mr Biden will travel to India from September 7 to 10 to attend the summit. Biden will hold several bilateral meetings while in India but did not elaborate.
