Reports of the death of former Zimbabwean cricketer Heath Streak turned out to be a hoax after his former teammate Henry Olonga confirmed that the 49-year-old was still alive.
Revealing that they had a talk, Olonga wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “I can confirm that the rumors of Heath Streak’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. I just heard from him. The third referee called him back. He’s still alive, everyone.”

Incidentally, it was Olonga who posted about Streak’s death on social media.
“The sad news from Heath Streak has crossed to the other side. RIP Legend. The most amazing all-rounder we’ve made. It is a pleasure to play with you. See you on the other side when my bowling is over,” he wrote.

Streak is being treated by one of the most respected oncologists in South Africa, his family revealed in May.

In whiteball cricket, Heath has accumulated 2,943 runs and has 239 goals.
