Team India are set to have a new captain for their upcoming assignment in the United Kingdom (UK) as star catcher Jasprit Bumrah will lead the second division India team against hosts Ireland. The upcoming three-match series against Ireland will mark the return of high-speed tennis player Bumrah to international cricket. Bumrah was sidelined for nearly 11 months due to a recurrence of a back injury.

India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been appointed Bumrah’s vice-captain perfectly fit for the Ireland series. Bumrah has not played cricket since India’s home T20I series against Australia last September. Bumrah also missed the T20 World Cup and Asian Cup last year. Besides the speed ace Bumrah, speed athlete Prasidh Krishna will also return after a long break from competition due to injury. A stress fracture in his waist has kept Prasidh out of action since India toured Zimbabwe last August.

Under Bumrah’s leadership, India’s second-tier side will be hoping to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to the West Indies in the Caribbean.
