Fans watched the first screening of Dulquer Salmaan’s Malayalam film King of Kotha, and not everyone was impressed. Many people took to Twitter to share their reviews of the gangster movie. One review by trade expert Manobala Vijaybalan on Twitter read: “King of Disappointment. Struggling to maintain interest in a complex and disjointed plot. The end is false and leaves no lasting impression. Great #DulquerSalmaan & BGM.” Another wrote, “#KingOfKotha First Half – Okish. No surprises in the story so far!! Fully packed with volume elements. Jakes Bejoy BGM is great.” One person simply wrote ‘disappointed’ in their tweet, accompanied by a crying emoji.
Some fans also praised the film, especially the second half. “Second Half- #KingOfKotha is the Pakka Gangster Drama Mode for fans and movie lovers,” read a tweet. “King Of Kotha Review: – The show is purely by Dulquer Salmaan. The first part is good but the second part and climax are explosive. The collective action scenes are outstanding. Once again dulquer salmaan is fire”, another read. A glowing review for the film read: “#KingOfKotha: A Paisa vasool entertainer with good mass entertainment and @ charming dulQuer in the center. There’s nothing new in the plot other than the treatment and execution. Great performance by Shabeer and Nyla. A sure winner at the box office.”
King of Kotha is a historical drama film directed by debut filmmaker Abhilash Joshiy. This is Dulquer’s first release following the hit 2022 Telugu film Sita Ramam and R Balki Chup’s 2022 Hindi thriller: Revenge of the Artist. He also appeared in the Netflix series Guns and Gulaabs, directed by Raj and DK.
King of Kotha is supported by Wayfarer Films and Zee Studios. The upcoming action movie also stars Shahul Hassan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Nyla Usha and Chemban Vinod Jose.
Talking about the making of the film, Dulquer told ANI, “The most memorable thing about our gangster movies is that some of the dramas are good or they are messy entertainers. And when I heard the script for the first time, I felt like it had the drama and the story that the genre really needed all the characters in the movie, like if you get rid of one character you can’t. tell the same story.”
