Contact Miami CF II lost 1-2 to Crown Legacy FC at DRV PNK Stadium on Saturday night. The match featured the first goal of a professional career for 16-year-old Academy product, Santiago Morales.
herons The starting line-up had Owen Finnerty in goal; Israel Boatwright, Tyler Hall, Farid Sar-Sar and Cesar Abadia-Reda make up four defenders; captain Lawson Sunderland, Alejandro Flores, Jack Pymm, Ricardo Montenegro and Miles Perkovich started in midfield; striker Bryan Destin led the team’s attack.
Crown Legacy scored the first goal in the 18th minute, with a right-footed shot from striker Luri Tavares to the bottom right corner, following a pass from defender Jack Neeley on the left side of the box.
However, Inter Miami II did not back down and continued to fight with Boatwright’s two scoring opportunities, with a right-footed shot to the right of goal and a header from close range. The visitors attacked again when minutes later they added another goal into the net after a close-range shot from midfielder Christopher Hegardt, who was assisted by defender Nicholas Scardina.
Entering the second half, herons looking for a chance to score ahead, notably Pymm’s left footed shot. But hopes were not lost when Miami scored in the 72nd minute with a second-half substitute Morales header from the center of the box, his first professional goal, after Flores’ cross, marking his second assist at the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro campaign.
The score held until the final whistle sounded with Crown Legacy FC winning 1-2.
Inter Miami II will now hit the road and travel to Huntsville, Alabama to take on Huntsville City FC on Sunday, August 27 at 7 p.m. ET at Joe Davis Stadium.
