Starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam OMG 2 saw its best day in theaters on Tuesday, which happens to be Independence Day across the country. As reported by industry tracking company Sacnilk, the film has grown a lot from day one and earned Rs 18.5 cr on Tuesday. Currently, the film’s total gross is Rs 73.67 and according to its performance at the box office, it could cross the Rs 100 mark next weekend.
OMG 2 got off to a slow start at the box office earning Rs 10.26 on Friday. But it started picking up speed with positive word of mouth and the weekend collection subscription was Rs 32.85 (Rs 15.3 on Saturday and Rs 17.55 on Sunday). In addition, the first Monday of the film was better than the first day, grossing Rs 12.06 cr.
OMG 2 hit theaters alongside action movie Gadar 2, which caused a huge craze around it even before its release. But, to the surprise of commercial analysts, both films could exist simultaneously in theaters. Along with them, Rajinikanth’s Jailer is also writing new box office records every day. However, the real testing of all three releases begins now as the long Independence Day weekend comes to an end.
The film, written and directed by Amit Rai, is the second film in the OMG series to be loved by the audience. Noticing the OMG 2 box office trend, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh went to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Sure, #OMG is a franchise, but love for #OMG2 is reflected in #BO… The franchise has only enhanced its status in the eyes and hearts of moviegoers.”
On Monday, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and Manufacturers Association of India (PGI) noted that the weekend saw the launch of OMG 2, Gadar 2 and Jailer , has set a “new all-time box office record” in its 100-year history. This is as a relief for the film exhibition industry, which has been struggling since 2020 when cinemas closed due to the corona virus pandemic. Even after theaters reopen, they still have trouble getting people to return.
However, it seems that the dry period at ticket booths is finally over.
