- The Pakistan captain was sacked by Mujeeb-ur-Rahman.
- He equaled the record set by Imran Khan.
Pakistan is one of the candidates to win the Asian Cup 2023 to lift the trophy. They have a pretty strong team with some of the best pitchers in the world. In the batting department, the star everyone will keep an eye on is none other than their captain Babar Azam. The right-hander has scored from left, right and center, but has now joined the shameful list with his duck in his first ODI game against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka. In fact, he equaled the record of the legendary Imran Khan with his duck.Babar Azam currently has four ducks in his ODI career, two of which have gone on to captain Pakistan. Thus, the right-handed opening goal equalized with Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Younis Khan and Azhar Ali to rank fourth in the list of most goals scored by the Pakistani captain. Wasim Akram topped the list with eight ducks as Pak captain, followed by Inzamam-ul-Haq and Moin Khan (4 each) and Misbah-ul-Haq (3 each).
Babar Azam could only face three balls when he was caught LBW by a deceiving serve from Afghan spinner Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman.
Hit the first ball, the Pakistani batters struggled against the excellence of the Afghan bowling team. Pakistan could only score 201 points from a 61-hit hit from Imam Ul Haq, and some late flourishes from Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan. Mujeeb was the pitchers’ choice with three hits while Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi scored two knives each.
However, the Afghan troops could not withstand the storm Haris Rauf. The right-arm speed pitcher was on fire for Pakistan as he picked up five shots from his 6.2-round pitch in just 18 runs. The Afghans were eliminated in a meager 59 runs. This is the lowest total ODI any team has scored against Pakistan.
