Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations went awry for Pakistanis living in Dubai, as the country’s flag was not flown from the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa. Pakistan celebrates Independence Day on August 14 and a large number of Pakistani citizens gathered near the Burj Khalifa to see their flag on the iconic building, according to the news platform WION. However, Pakistanis expressed disappointment and some even expressed anger that no such performance had taken place.
“It is 12:01 am and Dubai officials announced that the Pakistani flag will not be displayed on the Burj Khalifa. This has become our status now. Pakistanis are raising slogans here. but the flag of Pakistan will not be displayed on the Burj Khalifa. Sadly, a prank has been played with the Pakistanis,” a woman is quoted as saying by WION. She shared a video in which a large number of Pakistani citizens can be seen.
Dubai authorities woke up when the video went viral on social media and Pakistani users started condemning the action. Notably, the Burj Khalifa is known for displaying great things and often celebrates occasions like Independence Day.
A video was later released on Burj Khalifa’s official Instagram account, where a video of the Pakistani flag can be seen on the iconic building.

In September 2022, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan also appeared on Burj Khalifa and his fans were excited by the gesture. The image of Shah Rukh Khan was displayed in the Burj Khalifa for a campaign video for Burjeel Holdings, one of the private healthcare operators in the UAE.
