New Delhi:
Actor Prakash Raj has responded to the backlash on his social media post about India’s Chandrayaan-3 moon mission. “Hate only sees hate,” he posted, clarifying that he was referring to an old joke.
The actor said his earlier tweet referred to an old joke from the time of Neil Armstrong, the American astronaut and first man to walk on the Moon in 1969. “Hate just see Hate. .. i am referring to a joke by # Armstrong times.. our Kerala Chaiwala anniversary.. What TROLLS did Chaiwala see?? .. if you don’t understand a joke then the joke is yours .. Growing up #justasking(sic),” Mr Raj posted.

Mr Raj, earlier on Sunday, shared a caricature of a man pouring tea. He captioned the cartoon in Kannada, writing, “Latest news: First-person perspective just arrived from Chandrayaan #VikramLander #justasking”.
The post on X, formerly known as Twitter, was seen by some social media users as an act of irony and insult to the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
The post was deemed insensitive and offensive by users who urged him to show respect to the scientists responsible for India’s historic Moon mission.
“Chandrayaan-3 is something that the whole of India should be proud of, regardless of political ideology. Know the line between political and national trolling,” one user wrote.
“There’s a difference between hating someone and hating your country. It’s sad to see your condition!” wrote otherwise.
However, some users defended the 58-year-old, saying it was just a joke aimed only at the people of Kerala.
“People who only hate will only hate. If that makes any difference then Prakash Raj is referring to a joke (before anyone you feel he’s insulting) about how we find saw Keralites everywhere in the world and the first thing Neil did what Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin saw when they landed on the moon was a Malayali selling tea there. We Keralites make up about ourselves and we wholeheartedly accept and laugh about it for decades. Now, if you have to insist on hating even after it’s been explained to you, this That says a lot about you, doesn’t it?” user wrote.
