A day after riding a motorbike from Leh to Pangong Tso in Ladakh, Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to his father and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birthday from the lakeside on Sunday. Japan.

Rahul Gandhi is currently on a tour of Ladakh – his first since the region became a Union territory following its separation from Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019 – and is likely to visit Kargil next week.
The first state of Jammu and Kashmir was also made Union territory and its special status under Article 370 of the Constitution was revoked.
Gandhi arrived in Leh for a two-day visit on Thursday, then decided to extend his stay in the area for another four days to cover Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley and Kargil district, said Parliament spokesman. and opposition leader in the Ladakh Autonomous Hills Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Tsering Namgyal.

“On Sunday, he will ride a motorbike to Nubra Valley to spend the night there. Along the way, he may meet ordinary people including shop owners and farmers,” Namgyal said, adding. he will return to Leh on Monday.
Although the trip was described by his party colleagues in Leh as “apolitical” and did not take into account next year’s parliamentary elections, Rahul Gandhi was warmly welcomed by party staff when he arrived on Thursday.
He also met his colleagues at the party and socialized with the youth besides watching a football match between two local clubs.
The Parliament spokesman said Gandhi will visit Kargil district on Monday or Tuesday, adding that he is likely to come in contact with party workers and the people, especially gender young, there.
Gandhi’s visit to the district is significant because LAHDC, Kargil will vote on September 10. The National Convention and Congress have announced a coalition ahead of the vote for the hill council elections.
