Ruturaj Gaikwad feels leading a team is a complicated job, but he will try to make it simple like his Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni did.
Gaikwad will be the captain of an Indian team of young players attending the Hangzhou Asian Games with the main squad busy preparing for the World Cup.
“Leadership is a very complicated thing. What Mahibhai (Dhoni) always says to play one game at a time, don’t worry about the future.
“Everybody creates hype and whatever it is. I’m not the type to follow social media and listen to what people say about me.
“I think this is one of the traits that I learned at CSK. I’m pretty clear about doing my best on the pitch, when I come home and chat with my friends,” he told reporters after India’s 33-match win over Ireland. in T20I Monday on Sunday.
The right-hander, who has warmed up to the bench for much of the West Indies tour, will feature in the T20Is against Ireland. He scored a 58-of-43-ball win after a soft start.
“It’s very important. It’s very different when you play from the first game. You come in with a lot of confidence and the right mindset.”
