Sunny Deol Juggernaut Makes August 15 “History,” Shoots Past 200 Crore Mark

Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 was unstoppable at the box office and the film made “history” as the highest-grossing film ever on Independence Day. According to Bollywood commercial analyst Taran Adarsh​, the film earned more than Rs 55 crore on Tuesday and this is the highest grossing a film has ever registered on Independence day. With the money earned since August 15, Gadar 2 joined the coveted Rs 200 crore club. The film’s total earnings now stand at Rs 228.98 crore. Taran Adarsh​ mentioned in his tweet that the film “faces capacity issues”. Not only single theaters, cinema clusters also witnessed an explosion of Gadar 2 waves when audiences flock to theaters to watch a show.

Gadar 2 Released to average rating. Film critic Saibal Chatterjee, in his review of NDTV, gave the film 2 stars out of 5 and he wrote, “Gadar 2 is purely for three types of people: fans of Sunny Deol, who miss out on the unbridled excesses of old Bollywood, and those who believed that “hate your neighbor” was a cheery axiom in the cinema.The movie was enough to please them all – and then some people.”

Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 is the sequel to 2001’s hit Gadar. In the sequel Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma reprized their roles of Tara Singh, Sakeena and Jeete, respectively. The film is released in theaters on Friday. It is in conflict with Akshay Kumar’s oh my god 2 at the box office.
