Equalizer 3 (English)
Manager: Antoine Fuqua
Stare: Denzel Washington, Dakota Fanning, David Denman, Sonia Ammar, Remo Girone
Running time: 109 minutes
Plot: A Man goes into a town about to be attacked by some very nasty men and the Man has to deal with it
The fictional town of Altamonte in Sicily with its steep steps, majestic cathedral perched high on sea-battered cliffs, cafes and town squares as well as villas, cars and sharply tailored suits evil, all steeped in a kind of sinister magic, like a siren’s song that draws you in and doesn’t let go.
There is a scene where a bad guy is threatening a couple. The frame is somewhat otherworldly – like a Caravaggio scene, where the focus is on a shivering man in a wheelchair outside the room where the couple is threatened. That scene itself is worth the price of the ticket.
However, there are more interesting things and more interesting things to be tasted. Robert McCall (Denzel Washington), a former Marine and DIA officer who is paying his debt for all the bad things he’s done by weighing his respectable skills on the side of the weak Worldly and oppressed, heads to a farm in Sicily on a secret mission. He succeeded but was also shot.
He is brought to the small town of Altamonte by a local cop, Gio (Eugenio Mastrandrea), and the town’s doctor, Enzo (Remo Girone), asks McCall if he’s a good guy or a bad guy. When McCall said he didn’t know, Enzo took the bullet out of his back and helped him on the road to recovery.
McCall finds himself at home in Altamonte and knows that the town, like many others, is under the relentless thumb of the Mafia. Vincent (Andrea Scarduzio) and his brother Marco (Andrea Dodero) run the town and unfortunately don’t take McCall’s advice about moving their business somewhere else.
McCall tips off government agent Emma (Dakota Fanning) about a drug ring that may have terrorist links, reducing the agency’s full weight in the operation. The action is fast and furious with a Sholay vibe. When Vincent asks the townspeople to give up McCall, there are echoes of Gabbar’s threats to the villagers of Ramgarh.
McCall’s third outing is bloody, brutally effective, and so beautiful!
